The main theme of the conference

With the first days of 2020, the World encountered the Corona (Covid-19) virus pandemic. In order to solve this big problem facing humanity, various studies have started in different disciplines and many results have already been obtained on a global scale. Some of these can be the vaccination and patients’ improvement studies in the field of medicine; machines to eliminate the problems caused by the disease in the field of biotechnology (for example, respiratory equipment); applications involving filiation techniques in the field of informatics; economic effects and ways to reduce this supply-induced shock in the field of economy and many more However, the effectiveness of many of these studies depends on making long-term predictions of daily case numbers healthy.

Interdisciplinary studies are needed in order to both effectively prevent and also to eliminate the negative effects this situation creates in every field. In this sense, the CovidMetrics Conference will be an important platform to discuss computer applications with the knowledge of Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics and advance algorithms, including big data analysis. For this purpose, articles that use these analysis tools in the interdisciplinary fields of Economics, Medicine, Agriculture, Supply chains and so on, with an effort to eliminate the negative effects of the epidemic period will be evaluated. Applied and theoretical articles will be presented in separate sessions based on their research topics in order to bring together the opinions of relevant scientists within a single platform.

Looking at the literature, it can be seen that while statistics and econometrics researchers use time series analysis, medical and mathematics researchers have been observed to use SIR (sensitive, infectious and extracted or recovered) and similar models. While SIR models consist of a system of equations based on differential equations, econometric models try to forecast the same epidemic period with difference equations. In this sense, it is believed that this conference will contribute to the scientific environment by providing an opportunity for statisticians and mathematicians to come together and compare and discuss their models.
